OMAHA, Neb., July 24, 2017- Omaha Symphony Assistant Conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez will step down from his position with the Omaha Symphony on September 1, 2017, to take a one-year posting with the Nashville Symphony as assistant conductor. During his Nashville tenure, he will return to Omaha in the 2017-18 season to conduct three subscription concerts with the Omaha Symphony as well as several community engagement programs.
The Omaha Symphony will hold auditions for his successor in early autumn and will name a new assistant conductor soon after.
OMAHA, Neb., June 13, 2017- The Omaha Symphony has broken records for paid attendance and ticket sales in the 2016-17 season, achieving new highs since the orchestra moved to the Holland Performing Arts Center in 2005.
In the 2016-17 season, which spanned 38 weeks from September 2016 through June 2017 and encompassed 54 concerts, paid attendance for Omaha Symphony performances at the Holland Performing Arts Center and Joslyn Art Museum was 64,938 - a new record. This is a 2.1 percent increase since last season, and a 34 percent increase since the 2011-12 season. Including attendance at education programs, community engagement events, and free concerts, more than 120,000 people attended the Omaha Symphony in 2016-17.

OMAHA, Neb., April 11, 2017- Motown legend Smokey Robinson will headline the Omaha Symphony’s annual Gala concert on Saturday, April 22, 8 p.m., at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Led by Music Director Thomas Wilkins, Robinson will sing songs from his four decades of hits like “I Second That Emotion,” “The Tears of a Clown,” “The Tracks of My Tears,” and “Cruisin’.” The orchestra will open with Bernstein’s West Side Story: Overture.
OMAHA, Neb., March 28, 2017- The Omaha Symphony is heading for the Highlands with Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony, Friday and Saturday, April 7 and 8, 7:30 p.m., at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Led by guest conductor Ken-David Masur, the concert will include music by “prodigies:” Strauss, Mozart and Mendelssohn. The program will feature Strauss’s orchestral fantasy Macbeth, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major featuring violinist Paul Huang, and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3 in A Minor, known as his “Scottish” Symphony.

OMAHA, Neb., Mar. 16, 2017- Omaha Symphony Music Director Thomas Wilkins will become the symphony’s longest-serving music director with the extension of his contract through the symphony’s 2020-2021 centennial season. Omaha Symphony Association Chairman D. David Slosburg announced today that Wilkins has signed a new three-year agreement to remain as music director through the 2020-2021 season, whereupon he will become Music Director Emeritus.
