Principal Flutist Maria Harding takes center stage in Christopher Rouse’s Flute Concerto conducted by internationally recognized guest conductor, Sameer Patel. Also on the program are two contrasting works by 20th century composer greats. Oswaldo Golijov’s Tenebrae is a composition that draws on the musical traditions of his native Argentina to create a deeply emotional and spiritual experience. In contrast, Stravinsky’s Jeu de cartes is a witty and playful work that that showcases the composes mastery of musical form and structure. Together, this program depicts the range of emotional depth and beauty that 20th century music has to offer.
