  • GABRIELI: Canzon a 12

  • JOHN ADAMS: Shaker Loops

  • MOZART: Gran Partita

A true chamber music extravaganza, this performance begins with Canzon a 12 by Gabrieli, a piece that showcases the composer's intricate use of brass and winds at the time of the shift from the Renaissance to Baroque eras. Moving swiftly into the late 20th century, John Adams’ Shaker Loops is a hypnotic and minimalist work that creates a mesmerizing wash of sound utilizing a small group of seven string players. Spotlighting the woodwinds to conclude the afternoon, Mozart's Gran Partita charms the listener with its Classical harmonies, playful melodies, and masterful use of a 13-player ensemble of oboes, clarinets, horns, bassoons, and string bass.
