Program Info

  • ANDY AKIHO: Petroglyphs from Sculptures

  • GABRIELI: Sonata 19

  • JOHN ADAMS: Shaker Loops

  • MOZART: Gran Partita

A true chamber music extravaganza, this performance begins with Andy Akiho’s Petroglyph, from his stunning 2023 Sculptures premiered this past March at the Holland. An organ interlude then takes you into Gabrieli’s Renaissance-era Sonata 19, a quintessential showcase of intricate writing for brass. Moving swiftly into the 20th century, John Adams’ Shaker Loops is a hypnotic and minimalist work that creates a mesmerizing wash of sound utilizing only the Omaha Symphony string section. Spotlighting the woodwinds to conclude the afternoon, Mozart's Gran Partita charms the listener with its Classical harmonies, playful melodies, and masterful use of a 13-player ensemble of oboes, clarinets, horns, bassoons, and contrabassoon.
