  • GIOACHINO ROSSINI: Overture to L’italiana in Algeri

  • GIOVANNI BOTTESINI: Double Bass Concerto

  • OTTORINO RESPIGHI: Ancient Airs & Dances, Suite I

  • LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 8

Known as the Paganini of the double bass, Bottesini wrote his Concerto No. 2 as a take on fiery Italian opera, performed here by Omaha Symphony Principal Bass Nate Olson. Beethoven’s penultimate Symphony No. 8 runs the gamut between ferocious and rambunctious, reveling in goodwill, humor, and the sheer force of a thunderous ensemble.
