Shannon Merciel
Section Cello
Shannon Merciel is a cellist and teacher based in St. Louis, Missouri. A versatile performer, she appears as an orchestral and chamber musician in the United States and abroad. Shannon joined the Omaha Symphony in 2023, and performs regularly with the St. Louis Symphony and Sarasota Orchestra. Previously, she was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and has appeared with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. Also in 2023, she joined the resident orchestra at the Muny, the nation’s oldest and largest outdoor amphitheater producing Broadway musicals every summer in St. Louis. Shannon is the cellist of Trio Doyenne, an internationally formed piano trio founded in Glasgow in 2018. The trio performs throughout the UK and Europe and has been featured on Lithuania’s National Radio. Alongside performing, Shannon coaches local youth orchestra sectionals and maintains a private studio of dedicated cello students out of her home in St. Louis.
Shannon earned her Bachelor of Music from the University of Missouri-Columbia and Master of Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
Outside of her musical endeavors, Shannon enjoys sourdough baking, inline skating, and spoiling her two tuxedo cats, Vinny and Frida.
