Thomas Wilkins is music director laureate of the Omaha Symphony. He was the longest-serving music director in the organization's 100+ year history, from 2005 to 2021. Additionally, he is principal conductor of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and holds the Germeshausen Family and Youth Concert Conductor Chair with the Boston Symphony. In August of 2017 he assumed the Henry A. Upper chair of Orchestral Conducting established by the late Barbara and David Jacobs as a part of Indiana University’s “Matching the Promise Campaign.” Past positions have included resident conductor of the Detroit Symphony and Florida Orchestra (Tampa Bay), and associate conductor of the Richmond (VA) Symphony. He also has served on the music faculties of North Park University (Chicago), the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Devoted to promoting a life-long enthusiasm for music, Thomas Wilkins brings energy and commitment to audiences of all ages. He is hailed as a master at communicating and connecting with audiences. Get ready for a night you won't forget! This very special occasion is headlined by none other than Patti LaBelle, the "Godmother of Soul." With her effortlessly powerful vocals and undeniable stage presence, be prepared for an evening of entertainment and classic hits! The orchestra will be conducted by our very own Music Director Laureate Thomas Wilkins, and will also feature a special performance by nationally renowned cellist Joshua Roman! Roman will be playing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations, a lush and elegant work considered to be one of the greatest cello compositions of all time.

For more than 60 years, LaBelle’s resplendent voice has left an indelible mark all over the world. This Philadelphia born entertainer captured her first hit in 1962, as lead singer of The Bluebelles and went on to receive worldwide acclaim with the trailblazing and genre bending trio, Labelle. A solo artist since the 1970s, Patti has created timeless songs that have helped cement her place as a music icon and garnered her numerous honors, including GRAMMY® Awards, American Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards, New York Times bestselling books, and more. Among several great songs from her repertoire, Patti LaBelle will perform hits such as “Lady Marmalade,” “If Only You Knew,” “You Are My Friend,” and “New Attitude.”
