Position Summary:
The Librarian works in collaboration with and under the guidance of the Head Librarian to provide for daily operations of the library and must be able to work in a leadership role when necessary. The Librarian will work closely with the Omaha Symphony administrative staff, orchestra members, as well as conductors and guest artists.
Position Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists with acquisition and preparation of music for rehearsals and performances. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assists with bowing cycle among concertmasters and string principals, as well as conductors when appropriate
- Prepares sets of parts with score and principal string bowings
- Proofreads and marks sets with available errata or creating errata lists
- Adds measure numbers and/or rehearsal letters/numbers
- Fixes page turns and photocopies materials
- Adds cuts, edits, and/or inserts
- Repairs deteriorating parts/scores
- Creates library sheets and assembles orchestra folders for all services
- Disassembles folders to ensure prompt return of music to the library and rental agencies
- Assists with maintenance of the Omaha Symphony music collection, archival material, and catalog. This includes numbering and stamping of new sets, entering accurate performance histories, timings, and detailed instrumentations into OPAS, and cataloging library/publisher information into OPAS.
- Assists with music acquisitions and verifies accurate content and condition of music received regarding the score and packing lists.
- Assists with preparation of materials for orchestra auditions.
- Provides assistance and support to orchestra members, conductors, artists, and administrative staff.
- Works closely with the Assistant Conductor and Education & Community Engagement department on concert planning and music preparation.
- Creates and submits yearly report to ASCAP and BMI, with guidance from the Head Librarian.
- Attends rehearsals and performs concert duty in rotation with other library staff. Must have the ability to travel to various locations.
- Maintains confidentiality, especially with respect to artistic planning.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Windows, Word, Excel, and music notation software.
- Comfort using general library equipment: computer, copier, printer, binding machine, paper cutter, etc.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
- Must be flexible in prioritizing multiple tasks
- Must demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Must have close attention to detail and demonstrate accurate work under pressure.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college, university, or conservatory with knowledge of music theory, music history, orchestral literature, and performance practices preferred.
- One or more years of experience as a music librarian with festival or professional ensembles.
Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications:
- Ability to read/write music in different clefs.
- Knowledge of instrument transpositions, foreign terms, orchestra literature, publication editions, US copyright laws, licensing agencies, bow markings, and contemporary notation.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Required to sit for extended periods of time.
- Requires the ability to stand, walk, and bend.
- Requires frequent use of hands, stooping, and lifting
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but will include occasional loud noises.

Salary: $46,000 - $50,000
