  • SIBELIUS: Symphony No. 5

Featuring a prominent flute solo and highlighting the instrument’s ability to convey a sense of wonder and magic, the overture to Mozart’s The Magic Flute sets the stage for the evening ahead. The exploration of the flute continues as the winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, flutist Demarre McGill, takes the stage to perform the melodic and lively Flute Concerto by American composer Kevin Puts. Finally, praised for its intense emotional expressiveness and ability to convey a sense of Finnish national identity, the evocative and powerful Symphony No. 5 by Jean Sibelius is an enduring masterpiece in the orchestral repertoire.
