Sounds of the City is a celebration of Omaha’s unique sounds in the heart of downtown. This free outdoor concert at the Gene Leahy Mall will feature the Omaha Symphony along with a multitude of community partners, artists, and organizations from all over the city. You’ll hear pieces for guzheng and erhu with the Nebraska Chinese Association ahead of the Moon Festival, the faculty of NOMA on summertime jazz standards, Omaha Conservatory of Music's Frontier Strings, and Mariachi Azteca del Ray to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. Sounds of the City is a part of Omaha Symphony’s Forte Initiative, which aims to amplify the strengths of our community through collaboration, representation of our Omaha neighbors onstage, and ensured access to the Symphony’s music.

This concert is the finale of the One Community Cultural Festival, which is hosted by the Omaha Symphony, Nebraska Chinese Association, and MECA. The festival runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, September 16. This one-of-a-kind family-friendly event will showcase many different cultures and types of music in the crisp, open air of the Gene Leahy Mall in autumn. Plus, the festival will include food vendors, arts and crafts, and other activities all day long.
