The Omaha Symphony and Temple Israel join forces to present a FREE concert of classical and contemporary music on Jewish themes. Guest conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez leads the Omaha Symphony with violin soloist Susanna Perry Gilmore and the San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir directed by Ruth Weber. The program includes Kurt Weill’s Second Symphony, and music featuring solo violin by Ernest Bloch (Nigun from Baal Shem) and John Williams (Theme from Schindler’s List). The San Diego Jewish Men’s Choir offers selections ranging from Julius Chajes’ “Song of Galilee” to Verdi’s Chorus of Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco to showtunes from The Prince of Egypt and Fiddler on the Roof. All the selections are rooted in Jewish tradition from the worlds of classical and popular music.
