Luna y Sol, Mariachi Omaha
The Omaha Symphony will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by partnering with the tremendous Luna Y Sol, an Omaha-based Mariachi ensemble, and performing classical music written by Hispanic composers. Program highlights will include Moncayo’s Huapango, a classical work based in a traditional Mexican dance, inspired by the popular songs of Veracruz; De Falla’s Ballet Suite from The Three Cornered Hat, a classical repertoire favorite based on Spanish settings and dances; Chavez’s Sinfonia India, a single movement symphony celebrating some of the oldest folk melodies from Northern Mexico; and Marquez’s Danzon No. 2, one of the most popular pieces in the orchestral repertoire.
