Assistant Principal and Eb Clarinet
Jaewon Kim joined the Omaha Symphony in 2016 as assistant principal/2nd/E-flat clarinet. Prior to his appointment, he was principal clarinet with the Youngstown Symphony. He served as 2nd/E-flat clarinet with the St. Louis Symphony for their 2019-2020 season.
A native of Seoul, South Korea, Jaewon immigrated to the United States at the age of 10 and began taking clarinet and piano lessons. When he was 16, he enrolled at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where he graduated from high school. He then went on to receive degrees from the Glenn Gould School (Toronto) and the Cleveland Institute of Music where his primary teachers were Joaquin Valdepeñas and Frank Cohen.
Jaewon has appeared as a soloist with the National Repertory Orchestra, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, the Royal Conservatory Orchestra, and the Colorado College Summer Festival Orchestra. In addition, he has participated in the Aspen Music Festival and the New York String Orchestra Seminar.
