Schools across the metro area are quickly approaching their final days of the year, and that means the Omaha Symphony’s education season is officially coming to a close! It’s been a busy and very successful season. Here are a few highlights:

• This season was Omaha Symphony Conducting Fellow Enrico Lopez-Yañez’s first season! We eagerly look forward to having him back for one more season as he takes an even more active role in constructing next year’s education experiences.

• Our traveling program for children age three through third grade reached nearly 7,300 students and teachers. We saw over 2,700 of those individuals in just the last two weeks

• Our recorder-based program, Link Up, has been steadily growing since its arrival eleven years ago, and this year we expanded from three to four concerts that engaged over 6,100 students and teachers in a multi-month recorder curriculum and brought them to the Holland Center for final celebration concerts in March.

• The orchestra traveled to Scottsbluff and North Platte for four concerts, bringing music to everyone from three- and four-year-old violinists to older community members.

• Last and certainly not least, our longest-running education program, Margre Durham Concerts for Youth, saw its largest audience of the last seven years, with 8,500 students and teachers with Music & Math: The Orchestral Game Show.

Overall, the Omaha Symphony’s education programs served over 27,000 students and teachers across the entire state of Nebraska and western Iowa. Our community engagement programs and experiences are still going strong this season and will come to a spectacular conclusion on June 5th at Baxter Arena with Sprouts and the Symphony. Look for more information about these programs and next season’s education offerings in our June newsletter!
