  • OWH REVIEW: Symphony's 'Blockbusters' program feels like a tribute to summer

Between the warm springlike weather, a relaxed “Symphonic Blockbusters” program and a red, white and blue finish, it seemed like the Omaha Symphony was celebrating summer at the Holland Performing Arts Center on Saturday night.

Expect identically festive conditions when Music Director Thomas Wilkins and his ensemble repeat their program at 2 p.m. today. It’s a great opportunity to thaw out one’s spirits after a long, cold winter. And, because the music is so well-known, it’s also a chance to appreciate some finer musical points that may go unnoticed during an unfamiliar work.
