  • CHABRIER: “Fete Polonaise” from The Reluctant King

  • FALLA: The Three-Cornered Hat, Suite No. 1

  • SAINT-GEORGES: Violin Concerto No. 9 in G Major, Op. 8

  • LOUISE FARRENC: Symphony No. 3 in G minor, Op. 36

The program begins with the Polish Dance from Chabrier’s comic opera, The Reluctant King; while it never gained notoriety in the mainstream, this work was a favorite among great orchestrators like Ravel and Stravinsky. Next is Falla’s triumphant The Three-Cornered Hat, a work defined by its Spanish flair, saturated with color and boldness. Concertmaster Susanna Perry Gilmore takes the stage in her performance of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges' Violin Concerto. Finally, a celebration of one of the finest 19th-century composers, whose fight to publish her work was hard-won though her music stands on par with that of Mendelssohn and Schumann: Lousie Farrenc’s Symphony No. 3.
