Music for – and a celebration of! – brass starts this program, written by renowned conductor and composer Michael Tilson Thomas. Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds lauds our extraordinary wind section, with rhythmic, driving lines matched against light, airy melodies. Schumann balances solemn, moving strings and delicate trumpet work with powerful moments of joy and energy. The second movement Scherzo will remind you that he had a gift of writing things that sound simple, and yet are fiendishly difficult. Virtuosic ensemble work of the highest order – a true feature for the entire Omaha Symphony.
