Through hand-on classroom learning and a fully interactive concert, students join the Omaha Symphony with instruments in hand to explore time, rhythm, and groove in orchestral music.  Printed curriculum materials approach repertoire experientially through the composer's lens, incorporating skills-based activities, creative work, and recorder, string, voice, and body percussion selections.

 

 

Teacher Training

Once you have been accepted into the program, you will be asked to attend a Teacher Training Session where you will learn about adapting the Carnegie curriculum to fit your classroom needs.  This teacher training will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Beveridge Middle School from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Celebrate your Creativity with the Omaha Symphony and Joslyn Art Museum!  This day-of-the-arts event allows your students to discover their inner artist through hands-on workshops in music, visual art, theatre, dance, photography, and the martial arts.  Following morning workshops, students join the Omaha Symphony for "Perceptions," a live concert that explores the transformative power of music.

 

NEW FORMAT FOR HIGH SCHOOL DAY! 

High School Students who participate on November 4th will have the opportunity to participate in a two hour intensive workshop of their choosing.  With workshops offered in music, theatre, dance, and visual art, your students will have an in-depth, immersion experience in their preferred discipline.

    Choral Collaborative provides opportunities for high school choirs to perform large symphonic and operatic works with the Omaha Symphony and Opera Omaha guest soloists. Working towards a formal performance through individual and combined rehearsals, students are granted unparalleled experiences and access to the world of professional arts.

    “Influence & Inspiration . . . Then & Now"

    Focusing on understanding music in realtion to history and culture, Concerts for Youth 2010 will explore how current events, invention, literature, and society have influenced and inspired composers in the past and the present.  Whether it's joining the orchestra on stage, answering questions from a seat in the audience, or working together to perform a piece of music, the Omaha Symphony's Concerts for Youth acknowledge that students learn by doing.

    Mozart's Missing Memory
    Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is premiering his latest compostion with the Omaha Symphony.  Through a freak accident during the rehearsal, Mozart loses his memory!  With the concert only moments away, Maestor Richardson, the orchesra and the audience rush to Mozart's aid, teaching him about tempo, dynamics, instrumentation and accompaniment to help him complete his masterpiece.

    Romeo & Juliet meet West Side Story
    The Omaha Symphony and Nebraska Shakespeare collaborate to bring your students a compelling concert experience that teams music and drama.  Music Alive is an ideal opportunity for your students to immerse themselves in the tragic love story of Romeo & Juliet through the skill of Nebraska Shakespeare's actors and Bernstein's exhlarating music from West Side Story.
