Omaha Symphony Community Partnerships Program

Creating Community.

The Omaha Symphony is invested in our community.  In what our community is and what it can be.  In creating a community that finds music and its symphony orchestra in unexpected places, at the core of its everyday life.  The Omaha Symphony belongs to our entire community.  The Community Partnerships program ensures that accessible programming is available each season for thousands of individuals diverse in age, background and opportunity.

To serve as a resource for a broad base of our community that represents Omaha and reflects our diversity, the Omaha Symphony Community Partnerships program creates sustainable relationships with diverse organizations that serve the breadth and depth of our city.  The Omaha Symphony and its partners are able to create distinctive experiences through a mutual determination of needs, goals, and objectives.  For some partners, these experiences create an environment to learn and practice basic life skills.  For many, these programs may offer a first experience in the conert hall, a first foray into the world of music or art.  For others it may provide an opportunity to showcase interests in a new way.  Regardless of the focus, the Community Partnerships program is creating lasting relationships and a stronger community each day through the power of music.

We are proud to work with our community partners in the greater metropolitan area.

The Omaha Symphony and Girls, Inc. call for mentors!

We are looking for talented female musicians of high school and college age who want to use their musical skills to give back to their community through our More than Music program.  A peer-mentoring program, More than Music pairs young musicians from Girls, Inc. with talented female high school and college age musicians.  Through one-on-one musical instruction and music-focused outings, the program serves as a catalyst for the positive role model/mentoring relationship between the two groups of students.

Mentors are selected to participate based on their passion for music, their role as young leaders in the community, and their interest in learning the art of pedagogy.  Through their participation, mentors will have the opportunity to experience private teaching under the direction of a professional pedagogue, receive complimentary tickets to Omaha Symphony concerts, and also receive a small stipend in recognition of their commitment.  More importantly, mentors will be giving back to their community through meaningful and impactful volunteering while serving as positive role models.

More than Music begins in January and concludes in early April.  Project committments include mentoring up to two private students from Girls, Inc., planning and executing one-on-one lessons with students, attending formal performances given by the Girls, Inc., students, and attending dinner and concert outings.

If you know of talented young individuals who may be interested in being mentors, we encourage you to download the our information and application packet!
